Summer 2010
Well I survived another semester and am now half way done with my undergraduate degree. Crazy how the time flies, but I am very relieved to have gotten this far. After two weeks at home (I had to get my wisdom teeth out) I am in Washington, D.C. for the summer. I have an internship and am taking two classes. I am very excited about both and can’t wait for them to start. The weather has been beautiful lately and I have been spending this past week lazing about and walking to the nearby lake. The one thing I won’t be getting used to is the traffic. Wether you drive, take public transportation or bike there is a ton of traffic to compete with. On the metro last week it was so crowded that I couldn’t even move my arms, and it stayed that way for 45 minutes! The best thing about my neighborhood is that you can go from the business of the city to a quiet path in the woods in about five minutes walking. I like that there are so many walking paths and that they have done really well in maintaining the natural beauty of this area.
One of the first things I did last week was locate the local library and check out several books on Thomas Jefferson and Monticello. I plan on doing some research on him this summer as well as visit Monticello for the first time. I am also currently reading John Adams biography. The Library of Congress will be a popular hang out for me. I also hope to visit the Jefferson Institute at some point.
I have found a great church that isn’t too far and I have met lots of wonderful people. I look forward to a busy and exciting summer. These few short months are going to fly by all too fast.
