Just finished reading C.S. Lewis’ Surprised by Joy. Here are some thoughts.

God is to be obeyed becuase of what He is in Himself. Not for what He has done for us or for what we get out of it. We should obey and worship God simply because He is. In His nature His sovereignty de jure is revealed. 

“God is such that if (per impossible) His power could vanish and His other attributes remain, so that the supreme right were forever robbed of the supreme might, we should still owe Him precisely the same kind and degree of allegiance as we do now.” 

“The hardness of God is kinder than the softness of men, and His compulsion is our liberation.”
