Reflection from Passion 2012
Tomorrow in church I will be sharing about my experience at Passion 2012 and I thought I’d share my thoughts with you as well. Passion is an annual conference for college students and is held in Atlanta. I was so blessed to be able to go this year and am very excited to be sharing about what the Lord has been doing in my life since then. So here’s my outline for tomorrow:
Major takeaways
1. God wants to interrupt our normal, everyday moments to do something big through us. - We need to be open and available.
- Nothing is too small. By that I mean that He can use even the tasks and the moments that feel useless and insignificant. He likes those moments the best.
- Start where you’re at
- God isn’t limited by walls, by job titles, or by socioeconomic status
- Don’t wait to get involved
- He uses those who were broken to bring healing. You’ve walked through it, now go encourage others.
2. When we receive His grace we go from Dead to Alive
- There’s no scale here
- It’s not about becoming better, it’s about becoming not dead
- Only His grace can transform us. It takes a heart change.
3. Take the Bible more literally and read it for yourself
- Do you believe and obey what God is telling you to do? Too often we say “oh well He doesn’t mean that literally, it’s just an example”. Take a look at Matthew 25: 35 - 45.
- Reading the latest Christian self-help book and going to others for advice is all well and good, but are you letting it substitute your daily quiet time? We need to read the Bible for ourselves and ask God to show us what He wants us to get out of it.
Highlights:
DC*B concert, their last ever. Such a wonderful time of worship, I was so glad I got to be there for that!
Worship sessions with Charlie Hall
Hillsong United late night worship. It was a small glimpse of Heaven as 45,000 of us praised Jesus together! Such an incredible night.
Singing Chris Tomlin’s How Great is Our God: World Edition with people from all over the world in several different languages. So powerful!
My community group! Seven of the most wonderful people I have ever had the privilege of praying and learning with. Thanks for a great week you guys! Go Silver!!
Scriptures I have been reading, rereading, and sharing:
Psalm 51
Ephesians 2:1-5, 6:19
Isaiah 26:8 (this is the motto of the 268generation ministries, who organize Passion)
And several others related to the topic of Freedom…
The main focus of the conference was Freedom. Freedom for ourselves but also bringing Freedom to those trapped in slavery. I am helping to plan an event at my church to spend time in prayer and worship, but also to bring awareness to the truth of what is going on. It will be on February 25th.
